Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release

WINNIPEG, MB – It was Gene Dunn who gave Winnipeg Blue Bombers fans the great news about football club President & CEO Lyle Bauer.

Dunn, the Chairperson of the Board of Directors, told a capacity crowd at the club's Annual Information Session & Fan Forum last night that Bauer had signed a five-year contract extension with the club that will keep him in Winnipeg through 2008. This extension goes two years beyond Bauer's previous deal.

"The attitude and work ethic he has brought to this football club reflects the leadership of Lyle Bauer and I can assure you that we have the most talented guy in the league running our operation," said Dunn.

Bauer, who took over leadership of the organization in February 2000, has reduced the club's operating debt from more than $5.4-million to less than $300,000 in only four years. The football club has posted three straight years of profit.

Bauer has been the driving force to improve the club's on-field product. In four seasons the team has appeared in the playoffs four times, divisional championships three times and the Grey Cup once. The team has also hosted playoff games for the past three seasons.
