Lexington County Blowfish News Release

COLUMBIA, SC - It was "Guaranteed Win Night" at Historic Capital City Stadium on Tuesday evening, as the Columbia Blowfish took the field against the visiting Morehead City Marlins.

Roughly 5 minutes into the game, however, things were looking rather bleak for Columbia. A leadoff single from Blake Graham (Missouri State) and a hit batsman put two men on for Johnny Caputo (Stony Brook), who hammered a 3-run homerun over the left field fence as the Marlins jumped out ot a very early 3-0 advantage.

Georgia's Michael Carpin, who got the start on the mound for Columbia, settled in to get out of the inning without any further damage. Michael Trevor Bradley (Francis Marion) gave the Blowfish the exact shot in the arm they were looking for in the bottom of the 2nd inning as he jacked a 2-run dinger deep to left centerfield to pull Columbia back within a run.

The Blowfish seized the lead back 4-3 as Erik Barber (Central Florida) and Chase Shelton (Charleston Southern) both scored in the bottom of the third to make it 4-3 Blowfish.

The now 1-11 Marlins had plenty of fight in them though, as they posted back-to-back runs in the top of the 5th and 6th innings and battled back out in front 5-4.

Five runs over the final two frames for the Columbia Blowfish proved too much to overcome for the Marlins however, and Evan Raynor pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief for his 5th save of the season. Raynor's 5 saves in 5 chances leads the CPL in that category.

Bradley finished the night 3 for 4 with a double, a two run homer and 3 runs driven in. He also scored a couple of runs. Barber drove in a run on an RBI groundout, and Matt Williams was 2 for 3 with a run scored and a run driven in via sacrifice fly.

The victory for Columbia marks their 4th win at home this season. Columbia ia 4-1 at home and 6-7 overall as they move into tomorrow night's game with the Florence RedWolves. It will be the second of three home games this week for Columbia, and is scheduled for a 7:05pm first pitch.
