FLORENCE, S.C.- On a beautiful Monday night in Florence, South Carolina the (10-4) second half Columbia Blowfish took on the (5-14) Florence Red Wolves at Sparrow Stadium.

Columbia jumped out on top in the top of the second with a string of singles from Erik Barber (UCF), Dylan Kelly (Missouri), and Connor Lewis (Lander). Lewis' single drove in Barber from third to put the Blowfish on top 1-to-0.

Florence responded with two of their own in the bottom half of the fourth. Zach Bellinger (Saint Rose) reached on an error by Blowfish shortstop D.C. Arendas (South Carolina). Anthony Paulsen (South Carolina) singled to center scoring Bellinger. Following was Cameron McRea (Presbyterian) who doubled to right center scoring Paulsen, putting the Red Wolves up 2-to-1.

Columbia would respond with two more in the fifth off of several of the Red Wolves errors. The Blowfish scored two more run in the top of the eighth as Chase Shelton (Charleston Southern) was hit by a pitch, Barber drove him in with a triple down the right field line, and Lewis scored Barber with a single to right field.

Florence would add just one more in the bottom half of the eighth with a pair of walks to Paulsen and McRea, as Logan Domenico (Oral Roberts), singled to score Paulsen.

Columbia put one more on the board in the top half of the ninth scoring off of a passed ball.

Columbia beat the Red Wolves by a score of 6-to-3 in Florence.

The Starter for the Blowfish Monday night was Jon Olczak (N.C. State) as he threw three innings giving up no runs, no hits, one walk, and three strikeouts. South Carolina's Josh Knab came on in relief in the fourth tossing just two innings, giving up two runs, both unearned, off of three hits, one walk and three strikeouts. The third pitcher of the evening for the fish was Evan Raynor (Florence Darlington Tech) as he threw just an inning, giving up no runs, no hits, no walks, and two strikeouts. Hunter Privette (South Carolina) came in to shut things down for the final three innings giving up one run off of one hit, three walks, and two strikeouts.

Starter for Florence was Brandon Cook (Broward) tossing six innings, giving up three runs, one earned, off of three hits, three walks, and three strikeouts. Jason Harris (UNC Charlotte) came on in the seventh tossing two innings, giving up two runs off of two hits, no walks, and two strikeouts. Matt Campbell (Clemson), came on in the ninth, giving up one run off of one hit, one walk, and two strikeouts.

The Blowfish are now (11-4) in the second half of the season sitting in first place of the Western Standings of the Coastal Plain League.

The Columbia Blowfish will be back in action at home next Tuesday night July 30th with a double header hosting the High Point Thomasville HiToms, with first pitch set for 6:05pm. Gates open at 5:00pm.

The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
