Wilmington Sharks News Release
Fayetteville, N.C. - The Wilmington Sharks (13-8, 27-21) stayed hot at the plate as they picked up 11 hits on the road and won 6-1 over the Fayetteville SwampDogs (9-7, 26-17) on Monday night.
The Sharks struck first in the top of the second inning as Zach Stephens led off with a walk and eventually scored on a ground out to right side off the bat of Justin Weaver to make it 1-0. Tommy Houmard scored on a two out single in the same inning off the bat of Mike Dunster to make it 2-0 Sharks. Stephens led off the top of the fourth inning with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Dunster to extend the Sharks lead to 3-0.
The rain came in the top half of the fourth inning and the delay lasted for almost an hour and a half. The SwampDogs came out of the rain delay and had some promise as they picked up one run on three hits, which was off of a RBI single from Derek Gibson to make it 3-1.
Andrew Amaro came through clutch for the Sharks in the top of the sixth inning as hit a two out pitch back up the middle to score TJ Losby and Dunster to make it 5-1 Sharks and give the pitching staff plenty of cushion for the remainder of the game.
The Sharks did pick up another run in the top of the eighth inning as Losby led off with his third hit of the night. Weaver moved Losby to second on a sacrifice bunt and then moved to third on an infield single from Dunster who then stole second to advance Losby home and give the Sharks a 6-1 lead.
Stu Jones was the winning pitcher for the Sharks as he improved his record to 3-1 on the year. Mike Dunster went 3-3 with two RBIs and TJ Losby went 3-3 with two runs scored for the Sharks. The Wilmington Sharks return back home on Tuesday night as they welcome to Fayetteville SwampDogs to Buck Hardee field for a 6:05 p.m. first pitch.
