Blowfish Lose in Extra Innings

COLUMBIA, SC- The Columbia Blowfish (9-16) lose 3-2 in 10 innings to the HiPoint-Thomasville HiToms (10-11).

The HiToms went ahead in the top of the tenth inning when Jared Allen (MTSU) lead off with a solo-homerun deep into left center field.

The HiToms offense scored the first run of the ball game in the top of the fifth inning when Logan Taylor (Louisville) reached on a one out single to third base, Taylor would move to second on the error by Blowfish second basemen Michael Bell (Georgia), and Taylor would ultimately come around to score on the RBI single to left by teammate Josh Ingram (Central Oklahoma).

The Blowfish offense fired back with a run scored in the bottom of sixth when JD Crowe (Francis Marion) led off with a single to second, Bell would come up next and a single to left to move Crowe to second, Nick Pappas (College of Charleston) reached on a fielder's choice, and then Allen Staton hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field to score Crowe from third.

The Blowfish would tack on another run in the bottom of the seventh when Erik Barber (UCF) led off the inning with a double to center, Barber would come around and score on the next play as Cody Brittain would commit the throwing error.

The HiToms offense stormed back with vengeance when in the top of the ninth when starting catcher Nick Dini (Wagner) led off with an RBI to left field, Dini would come around to score on the double to left by Logan Taylor.

Both starting pitchers threw extremely well as HiToms starter Chase Cunningham (Belmont) threw 6.1 innings allowing only 2 earned runs to come across, Blowfish starting pitcher Trevor Hutto (USC-Aiken) threw 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits, while throwing 68 pitches.

Blowfish closer Evan Raynor (Florence Darlington C.C.) is hit with loss as he blows his first save of the season; Raynor still has 5 saves on the year.

The next home game for the Columbia Blowfish will be against the Peninsula Pilots on June 25th.
