FOREST CITY - The Owls offense stayed hot on Saturday night as they defeated the Gastonia Grizzlies behind a five run first inning.

Four players had a multi-hit game and Matt Dezort added a pair of RBI's to help the Owls get a 9-6 win in Forest City.

The game was already 7-0 when Grizzlies starter Enrique Sosa was taken out of the contest in the third inning after allowing back to back doubles from Dezort and Devin Wenzel.

Wenzel's double made it seven and then Eric Cheray added an RBI and the Owls led 8-0 after three.

The Owls got their ninth run of the ballgame when Joey Hawkins came into score after a balk from pitcher Logan Cook.

In his Owls debut, starting pitcher Max Cordy went four innings, allowing no runs on one hit and struck out four before his night ended. Four pitchers went on to throw the rest of the game allowing one earned run (five unearned).

After going 2-4 with an RBI tonight, Hunter Bryant will travel to Carey, N.C tomorrow to play in the CPL vs USA game.

The rest of the Owls will have their first off day in 14 days tomorrow before they get set to finish off the first half of the season.

They are currently three games out of first place and the winner of the first half is guaranteed a spot in the Petit Cup Playoffs in August.

Monday night the Owls will be back in action at McNair field to take on Catawba Valley in an exhibition game.

The Owls will continue the 2014 season at home tomorrow night as they take on Gastonia at 7:30. Fans can purchase season tickets, ½ season plans and 5-game Fireworks plans by calling the Owls office at 828-245-0000. Key dates for the 2014 season include: Fireworks Games on Saturday July 5th and Saturday August 2nd. Single game tickets are on sale now. The Owls will also take on the Chinese Taipei National team on July 7th.
