COLUMBIA, SC- The Columbia Blowfish (9-17) lost 9-1 in an exhibition matchup against the USA Collegiate National Team at Historic Capital City Stadium.
The USA Collegiate National Team is on an 8 game tour through the Coastal Plain League, starting out against the Coastal Plain League Select Team back on Sunday. It's been four road trips and four road victories since then, over High-Point Thomasville, Fayetteville, Wilson, and tonight against the Blowfish.
The Blowfish got on the board early as Brandon Burris (Spartanburg Methodist) lead off the 3rd inning with a single to shortstop. Burris then swiped second and would reach third on a throwing error by Chris Okey (Clemson). Burris came around to score on an RBI ground out by Tommy Mirabelli (Kansas) as Columbia snatched the early advantage.
The Collegiate National Team stormed back in the top 4th, when DJ Stewart (Florida State) led off with a walk, and came around to score on a two-run homerun by Nicholas Banks (Texas A&M).
In the 5th inning, the Collegiate National Team tacked on a run and added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning.
They broke things open in the 8th inning, as the Collegiate National Team would burst out as 5 consecutive hits plated 4 runs.
Blowfish starting pitcher Ben Schniederjans (Georgia Tech) pitched two solid innings allowing no runs to come across on one hit to start the ball game for the Blowfish.
Andrew Moore (Oregon State) pitched great in a relief appearance, striking out 5 in 2 scoreless innings of work
The Collegiate National Team will continue their tour against the CPL with games against Florence, Morehead City, and Peninsula over the next few days.
The Blowfish stay home to play on Saturday, June 28th against the Martinsville Mustangs, with first pitch set for 7:05PM.
