Dogs Drop Twinbill Despite Great Pitching

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - In a doubleheader Thursday night againsT the Petersburg Generals, SwampDogs starters combined to throw 11 innings while allowing one earned run, but the SwampDogs were swept by the Generals, losing 7-4 in the first game, and 4-3 in the second.

Bennett Schiltz took the mound in game one and allowed five unearned runs to score in the top half of the first frame, but would settle down after that, allowing just one run over his final five innings of work, including one stretch where he retired 11 batters in a row.

In the second game, Jordy Farthing picked up right where he left off in his last start, allowing just two hits and striking out 10 Generals in five innings of work while not allowing a run. Farthing lowered his season ERA to a paltry 1.19 mark. The SwampDogs would commit two errors in the sixth inning, leading to three runs (one earned) scoring off Ryan Domingue and the Generals would take the lead.

Jason Blum would have a terrific day overall for the SwampDogs on offense, going 3-5 with a double, two RBIs, three walks a stolen base and two runs scored.

Schiltz was the losing pitcher in game one, falling to 1-2 on the season, despite lowering his ERA to 2.18. Seth Laigast took the loss for the SwampDogs in game two, he falls to 1-1.
