June 13, 2014 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Lexington County Blowfish News Release
COLUMBIA, SC - With just shy of 5,000 people in attendance for 89.7 WMHK Family Night at Capital City Stadium, the Columbia Blowfish took on the Ashebor Copperheads looking to get back to the .500 mark on the year with an amazing atmosphere about Capital City Stadium.
A five run second inning started the night off for the Copperheads' offense, as all nine Copperhead batters came to the plate during the inning. It all started with a full count walk to Austin Bossart (Pennsylvania), and then two batters later the Copperheads rattled off 5 consecutive hits.
Columbia starting pitcher Christian Pelham (Spartanburg Methodist) had a short first outing with the Blowfish, as he only lasted 3 innings, allowing 8 hits and 5 earned runs on 81 pitches.
The Blowfish offense was led by utility man JD Crowe (Francis Marion), who was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and one run scored. Crowe is showing that he is the offensive leader on the team as he collected his first multi-hit game since going 4 for 5 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored against Gastonia back on June 5. Crowe also leads regular Blowfish players in batting average thus far this summer.
The scoring for Columbia happened all in the middle inning's of tonight's high scoring affair, as the Blowfish were able to plate two in the 5th inning, one in the 6th and two in the 7th inning. Jake Welch (Bethune Cookman) struck out looking with two men on base.
Asheboro concluded by scoring two runs in the third inning, the Copperheads scored a single run in both the seventh and the eighth innings to sink the Blowfish.
The next home games for the Columbia Blowfish will come via double header on Father's Day, June 15th, against the Florence Red Wolves. First pitch will be at 5:05pm, and young Blowfish fans and their fathers are able to play catch on the field in between ball games.
