Blowfish Fall 8-5 at Gastonia

GASTONIA, NC - After a victory at home against the Gastonia Grizzlies, the Blowfish hit the road for the second half of a home-and-home with Gastonia on Friday night.

The Blowfish scored early for the second straight game, as Mike Bell's (Georgia) three-run round tripper in the top of the second inning helped put Columbia ahead 4-2 as part of a four spot in that inning.

Matt Williams (South Carolina) was 2 for 4 on the evening with a couple of runs scored and a run batted in.

Gastonia would fight back, as they scored 2 in the bottom of the first inning, 2 in the bottom of the third, 3 in the fourth and 1 in the fifth as they took an 8-5 advantage into the seventh inning

The Blowfish couldn't muster a rally and the Grizzlies closed the door, sending Columbia to their sixth contest of this 2014 CPL season.

Zach Hamilton took the loss on the hill, allowing 3 earned runs and 5 total runs in 3 innings of work in his first decision of the season.

The Blowfish fall to 4-6 overall on the season, with a 2-1 home record and a 2-5 record on the road.

The Blowfish play again at home on Saturday night against Forest City, where it is Military Appreciation Night and Ike Night at "The Cap," put on with the help of the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce. Gates open at 6:00 pm, with a 7:05pm first pitch and fireworks to follow!
