COLUMBIA, S.C.- On fair Wednesday night the (8-3) second half Columbia Blowfish held host to the (6-8) second half Martinsville Mustangs at Capital City Stadium.
Martinsville struck first with a run in the top of the first with a leadoff double down the right field line by Mustangs center fielder, Devin Ahart (Akron). Following him Mustangs left fielder Clayton Booth singled up the middle to score Ahart on the play.
The Mustangs again scored one in the second with a leadoff triple to right field from Mustangs catcher, Austin Allen (Florida Tech). Designated hitter, Zach Hagaman (Charleston Southern) hit into a 4-3 fielders choice, scoring Allen from third.
Columbia answered with one run in the bottom of the second as Lee Howard (Florida State) led off the inning with a HBP, followed by a walk to right fielder Ryan Bull (Notre Dame). Howard scored on an error by the second baseman.
Martinsville would add two more in the top half of the sixth with a two run, monster shot to right field from Austin Allen. The Mustangs tallied another run in the top of the seventh with a one out triple from Ahart (2-4), followed by another RBI single up the middle for Clayton Booth (3-5).
Columbia would try to bounce back with adding another run in the eighth, as Ryan Bull scored off of an error by the Mustangs second baseman.
The starter for the Mustangs Wednesday was right-hander, Jarrod Jameson (Tennessee Wesleyan) as he threw seven innings, giving up one run, unearned, off of six hits, two walks and four strikeouts. Blake Louscher (Central Michigan) came on in relief in the eighth, tossing an inning giving up one run, unearned, off of no hits, one walk, and three strikeouts. Zach Hagaman (Charleston Southern) came in to close things out in the ninth as he gave up no run off of no hits, no walks, and two strikeouts. Jameson picked up the win bringing him to (3-3) on the season and Hagaman earned his first save of the season.
Starter for the Blowfish Wednesday was right-hander Zach Russell-Myers (Bluefield College), tossing five innings, giving up two runs off of five this, three walks, and two strikeouts. Stuart Pound (USC Beaufort) came on in relief in the sixth, toeing the rubber for an inning, giving up two runs off of three hits, no walks, and one strikeout. Hunter Privette (South Carolina) came on for Pound for the final three innings, giving up one run off of four hits, one walk, and five strikeouts.
The Blowfish are now (8-4) in the second half of the season sitting in first place of the Western Standings of the Coastal Plain League.
The Columbia Blowfish will be back in action at home next Friday night July 26th hosting the Florence Red Wolves with first pitch set for 7:05pm. Gates open at 6:00pm. It's also Rick Henry Appreciation Night! Adults buy a ticket and kids 12 and under get in for .25 cents!

The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats.
