COLUMBIA, S.C.- On Wednesday evening the (16-10) Blowfish held host to the (14-9) Fayetteville Swampdogs at Capital City Stadium.
The Columbia Blowfish started off the scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning with a single by Branden Burris (Spartanburg Methodist). Zach Smith (Erskine), put the Blowfish on the board on an RBI ground out by Michael Wilson (Francis Marion). Eros Modena (Bethune Cookman), hit an RBI single to up the middle to score Wilson. Modena also stole second which will bring him his twelfth steal of the season. Allen Staton (North Greenville) hit his RBI single to score Modena from second, bringing the Blowfish lead 3-to-0 heading into the top of the fourth.
The only run that the Swampdogs sent across the plate was a Connor Sullivan (Niagara), bases loaded walk.
The starter for the Blowfish Wednesday night was right-hander Hayden McCutcheon (College of Charleston), threw five scoreless innings, walked two, striking out two.
Coming on in relief for McCutcheon was another right-hander Connor Sullivan (Niagara), as he two would toss 3.2 giving up one run, off of two hits, one walk, and three strikeouts.
Derrick Smith, the right-hander, (College of Charleston), would come on to relieve Sullivan with two outs in the top of the ninth, coming on, giving up no runs, no hits, one walk, and no strikeouts.
The starter for Fayetteville was Nick Blackburn (Illinois), as he threw five innings, giving up three runs off of five hits, two walks, and five strike outs.
Parker McDaniel would come on as the third Swampdog pitcher of the night in the eighth inning and gave up one run, unearned, off of one hit, one walk, and no strikeouts.
The Columbia Blowfish would go on to beat the Swampdogs of a score of 4-to-1.
The Blowfish are now (16-10) on the season putting them in second place in the Western Standings of the Coastal Plain League.
The Columbia Blowfish will be back in action at home Wednesday night July 3rd hosting the 7th Annual USC Gamecock Alumni Baseball Team vs. The Blowfish, with first pitch set for 7:05pm. Gates open at 6:00pm. Join us after the game for Independence Fireworks at Capital City Stadium!

The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
