Morehead City Marlins News Release

Morehead City, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins (11-14) lead by a score of 3-1 after three innings, but eventually dropped a back and forth game by a score of 12-5, highlighted by a five-run top half of the ninth by the Peninsula Pilots (12-11).

Despite ultimately losing the game, the Marlins struck first in the ballgame when Ryan Cranmer absolutely demolished a 1-2 offering from Peninsula starting pitcher Josh Heddinger in the home half of the first inning.

The Pilots came roaring back getting a run of their own in the top half of the third when Brandon Reitano scored on a wild pitch from Morehead City starter Logan James to tie the game at 1-1.

Dylan Brown then gave the Marlins a 3-1 lead with a long two-run home run over the wall in right field. However, the lead didn't last long as Peninsula bounced right back with a three-run top half of the fourth on hits from Josh Tate and Bill Cullen.

The Marlins came to within 6-5 in the home half of the sixth on a two-RBI double. However, the Pilots came back with a five-run top half of the ninth to secure a 12-5 victory at Big Rock Stadium in Morehead City, NC on Wednesday night.

The Marlins begin four-game, six-day road trip on Thursday in Wilson and will return to Big Rock Stadium on Wednesday July 3 at 7:05 against the Wilmington Sharks. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM.
