
Blizzard to face tough test in Steeldogs

Green Bay, WI âSaturday, June 12th the (4-5) Green Bay Blizzard look to even their record at (5-5) when they face the number three team in the af2 coach's poll, the (7-2) Birmingham Steeldogs. The Steeldogs are coached by former NFL running back Bobby Humphrey who has a lifetime record of 44-29 in the af2 in four seasons as head coach.
The Blizzard enter the game Saturday ranked 7th in Scoring Offense (53.1 points/game), 6th in Total Offense (275.0 yards/game), and 3rd in Pass Offense (269.2 yards/game). Last week against the Peoria Pirates the Blizzard defense stepped up to allow only 29 points in the game. The Blizzard's defense is tied for 20th in Scoring Defense (53.0 points/game), 24th in Total Defense (292.0 yards/game), and 25th in Pass Defense (279.1 yards/game). The Blizzard's defense needs to slow down the Steeldogs offense if they are going to bring a .500 mark into next Friday's game against Midwest Division rival Quad City Steamwheelers who are 6-3 and second place in the division.
The Steeldogs bring in the 9th ranked Scoring Offense (50.9 points/game), 14th ranked Total Offense (260.2 yards/game), and the 15 ranked Pass Offense (226.9 yards/game). On the defensive side of the ball, the Steeldogs are 6th in Scoring Defense (39.9 points/game), 8th in Total Defense (233.1 yards/game), and 10th in Pass Defense (216.6 yards/game). Currently the Steeldogs are on a one game losing streak after falling to the Columbus Wardogs last Saturday night. The Steeldogs leading WR, Detronn Harris, recently signed a contract with the Carolina Panthers of the NFL and has left the team. Harris was 7th in scoring, touchdowns, and kickoff returns in 9 games this season.
The Blizzard have placed FB/LB Joe Rivard (UW LaCrosse) on Long Term IR and placed OS Nate Lehman (St. Cloud State) on Suspension. The af2 league office has assigned WR/LB Ross Moline (UW LaCrosse) and DS Albert Poree (Notre Dame) to the Blizzard.
