Green Bay Blizzard News Release
Green Bay, WI: The Green Bay Blizzard announces that they have signed Defensive Back Rodney Cox for the 2012 IFL season. Cox is a talented defensive back with great size for his position (6'1", 215lbs). He began his career as a walk-on at Arizona State University and ended it on scholarship as one of the team's starting safeties as a senior. Appearing in 44 career games, making 12 starts, Cox recorded 65 tackles (49 solo), an interception, a forced fumble and a blocked punt. Blizzard Head Coach Rik Richards said, "Getting a Pac 10 guy with great size like Cox, he will be a great addition to our defense."
As a true freshman in 2004, Cox played in 10 games, seeing most of his action on special teams. He recorded three solo tackles and blocked a punt Nov. 13 vs. Washington State. The following spring he was awarded a scholarship. The 2005 season, Cox would see playing time in two games (Northwestern and Washington), and was awarded a medical redshirt for the season due to the substantial time he missed because of injury. In 2006, Cox appeared in seven games, collecting three total tackles (two solo). Cox played in all 13 games during the 2007 season, starting the final two games against Arizona on Dec. 1 and against Texas in the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl on Dec. 27. He recorded 22 tackles (15 solo), an interception and a pass break-up on the season. In 2008, Cox appeared in all 12 games, with 10 starts recording 37 tackles (29 solo), four pass break-ups and a forced fumble on the season.
