Green Bay Blizzard News Release

5,874 fans were on hand to witness the Green Bay Blizzard remain unbeaten in the friendly confines of U.S. Cellular Field at the Resch Center this season by downing the Mahoning Valley Thunder in a high scoring, fast-paced affair, 54-39.

The Thunder struck first-blood in the opening quarter as QB Mike Schneider tossed an 8 yard touchdown pass to WR Chris Archie. The Blizzard countered the Thunder's attack with an 8 yard touchdown reception by WR Gerald Harris. Just before the quarter ran out, Mahoning Valley got another six. This time the recipient of the 31 yard touchdown pass was WR DeMarcus Mathes. At the end of the first, the Thunder led 13-7.

Green Bay scored with two and half minutes remaining in the second quarter on an 8 yard touchdown scramble by QB Gino Guidugli. WR Kenneth Johnson's 22 yard touchdown grab put the Thunder ahead with 48 seconds remaining, but the Blizzard snagged the lead away with 19 seconds left. WR Danny Donaldson's diving grab in the endzone after the ball caromed off the net, put Green Bay in the driver's seat at the half, 21-19.

WR Danny Donaldson picked up where he left off in the third quarter. On the opening kickoff of the second half, Donaldson took the boot coast-to-coast for a 57 yard touchdown return. The Blizzard then scored another touchdown on their following possession. From 5 yards out, QB Gino Guidugli faked a handoff, bootlegged out, and hit TE Markevius Woods for the scoring strike. The Thunder reeled back though, scoring twice to round out the third quarter. Both touchdowns were hauled in by WR Chris Archie. The first was from 16 yards out, while the second was from 5 yards out. At the conclusion of the third quarter, Green Bay had a narrow 3-point lead, 35-32.

The fourth quarter was defined by one individual: WR Danny Donaldson. He accounted for all three of the teams' scores, with two of them being touchdown grabs, and the third being another 57 yard kickoff return touchdown. The Thunder managed to get in the endzone one more time, but WR Donaldson proved to be too much, and he helped the Blizzard step on the accelerator in the final quarter and run away with the victory.

The win improved Green Bay's record to 5-4 on the season, and places them in a tie for second place in the Midwest Division with the Louisville Fire. Next week, the Blizzard hit the road, as they travel down to Oklahoma to battle the 8-1 National Conference Central Division leading Tulsa Talons. Game time is set for 7 PM.
