Green Bay Blizzard News Release

May 31, 2012- Who: Green Bay Blizzard (8-3) at Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (5-7)

When: Saturday, June 2, 2012 6:00pm CT

Where: Stabler Arena - Bethlehem, PA

Blizzard Update: Green Bay had a much needed bye last week after wrapping up a difficult seven game stretch in which the team went 5-2. The most recent game was a 66-39 loss to Sioux Falls two weeks ago. The schedule doesn't get any easier as the Blizzard make the long bus ride to Pennsylvania to face a Steelhawks team that is battling for the fourth and final playoff spot in the United Conference. Green Bay needs to win its remaining games to ensure the #2 seed and a home playoff game. Earlier this season, the Blizzard topped the Steelhawks 76-61 at the Resch Center. The 76 points was a season high for Green Bay. Bryan Pray (3) and Desmond Tardy (2) combined to snare five touchdown passes, while Andrew Verboncouer tallied two on the ground to lead the offensive. The defense notched a score of their own as Kenneth Viser returned an interception the length of the field for a score in the third quarter. Return ace B.J. Hill also put points on the board when Lehigh Valley finally gave him a chance to return a kick late in the fourth.

Steelhawks Update: Lehigh Valley is in a tight battle with Chicago (5-7) and Omaha (5-6) for the #4 seed in the United Conference. Last week, the Steelhawks ended a four game losing streak with a 39-24 home victory over Reading. The Steelhawks started strong as Jesse Cooper took the opening kickoff 55 yards for a touchdown. The Steelhawks special teams and defense would carry them on the night as kicker Paul Stoltz connected on four field goals and three extra points for a total of 15 points. The defense recorded five interceptions, including Cooper returning one for a score. After the game in Green Bay on May 11th, Lehigh Valley signed quarterback Chris Malleo. He re-joins head coach Chris Thompson to direct the Steelhawks offense. The pair were together last season in Reading and won a division championship. Malleo is a dual threat quarterback as he led all IFL passers in rushing a year ago.

Series: The Blizzard and Steelhawks have played twice in Green Bay. The Blizzard won both games including a 76-61 victory at the Resch Center on May 11, 2012.

Stats: Offense: Green Bay ranks second in the IFL with 53.2 points per game, Lehigh Valley ranks 13th with 43.2 points per game. Defense: The Blizzard is seventh in the IFL at 44.1 points per game and the Steelhawks are sixth with 43.3 points per game. The Blizzard defense leads the IFL with 25 interceptions.

Transactions: Lehigh Valley placed DB Calvin Harrison on season ending IR.
