Blizzard Fall In Final Seconds

March 13, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Green Bay Blizzard News Release

Bloomington, IL: The Green Bay Blizzard defense held the Bloomington Extreme to 185 yards of total offense, but it wasn't enough. Extreme quarterback Luke Drone hit Johnny Grey on a 12 yard touchdown pass with 17 seconds remaining to pull ahead of the Blizzard 24-20. The Blizzard offense responded by moving the ball down field quickly. On the last play of the game, a pass attempt by Blizzard quarterback Jake Phillips fell incomplete as time expired to end the game.

Bloomington (1-1) took a 7-0 lead on their first possession with a one yard run by Drone. Phillips matched the Extreme quarterback by directing a seven play, 38 yard drive that was capped off with a seven yard rushing touchdown of his own.

The Blizzard (1-1) tacked on a 21 yard field goal by Tino Amancio in the second quarter, but trailed 17-10 at the half. Defense ruled the third quarter as neither team put any points on the board.

Phillips ran for his second touchdown of the game on a three yard dash in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 17. The Blizzard defense continued to hold as defensive back BJ Hill intercepted a Drone pass in the end zone with 2:31 left to play.

Amancio nailed a 35 yard field goal to put the Blizzard up 20-17 with 1:39 left in the fourth. The Extreme found a way to move the ball against the Blizzard defense and scored the winning touchdown on a four play, 28 yard drive that took only 35 seconds.

The Blizzard head home to prepare for a matchup against in state rival La Crosse Spartans on Friday, March 19th. The Gilbert Brown coached team is 0-1 and is coming off two bye weeks. Kickoff at Online Trading Academy Field in the Resch Center is scheduled for 7:05pm.
