Blitz Sign New Backup QB Ryan Porter

BAKERSFIELD - The Bakersfield Blitz have been assigned Ryan Porter as their new backup QB by the af2 league office.

Originally from Highland, California, Ryan (6'3, 190 lbs.) is in his first year in the af2 league. He started the 2006 season with the Central Valley Coyotes. After six weeks as the Coyotes' backup QB, Ryan was traded to Rio Grande Valley to play backup to J.R. Davies. In the game against the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz on June 24th Ryan completed 19 of 42 passes for 163 yards and 2 touchdowns. Now with the Blitz, Ryan will be playing backup to Bobby Pesavento.

Ryan's college years were spent playing for Missouri State University. After a year as a red shirt at the University of Washington, Ryan transferred to Missouri State University in 2001. In 2001, he played in 8 games and recorded 146 rushing yards, and completed 12 of 25 passes for 113 yards. In 2002, Ryan played in 3 games before he was out for the rest of the season due to a tore ACL in his knee. For the 2002 season, Ryan completed 28 of 56 passes for 327 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Former QB, Mike Wall has been placed on team suspension, the Blitz announced today.

Ryan and the rest of the Blitz team will continue their run for a championship when they take the field against the Everett Hawks on Saturday, July 8. Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Washington. This will be the second time the Blitz and Hawks have met this season. In their first meeting, the Blitz brought home a 60-54 victory on March 30. The Blitz are currently ranked third in the National West Division, while the Hawks remain in last place.
