Manchester Wolves News Release
The Manchester Wolves arenafootball2 team is welcoming the #1 ranked UNH Wildcats to their next home game, aptly named "University of New Hampshire Night", on July 14 th when they host the first-place Wilkes-Barre Scranton Pioneers on Brady Sullivan Field at the Verizon Wireless Arena at 7:30 p.m.
The meeting between division rivals Wilkes-Barre and Manchester will be their third this year, currently knotted up at 1-1, with the career series advantage going to the Pioneers at 7-6.
On the field the game will feature two former Wildcats with OL/DL Mike Wells starting for the Wolves and starting Pioneer quarterback Mike Granieri for the Pioneers. Wells, a Salem, N.H. native, is in his third year with the Wolves, after a stellar four-year career with the Wildcats where he tallied 166 total tackles. Granieri, a rookie in the af2, finished his Wildcat career as fifth in school history with 4,568 passing yards.
Off the field the Wildcats, who were recently named the #1 team in Street and Smith's preseason I-AA rankings after a fantastic season last year which ended with a disappointing loss to Northern Iowa in the quarterfinal round of the I-AA playoffs, will be honored both before the game and at halftime. During the game the UNH alumni association will have two tables on the Wolves' concourse where they'll be raffling off two Wildcat authentic jerseys, one of Mike Wells and the other being David Bailey - both current Wolves' players, while also giving away two pairs of general admission 2007 season tickets. The entire 2007 squad along with Wildcats Head Coach Sean McDonnell (2006 recipient of the Eddie Robinson I-AA Football Coach of the Year Award) and mascot "Wild E. Cat" will be present for autographs after the game.
"It's a great time for UNH football," said Wolves' co-owner and UNH alumnus Don Winterton. "This game will give us a good opportunity to honor the Wildcats' great season last year while also giving fans a chance to watch some of their former stars battle on the field that have contributed to making UNH such a great program ."
The Wolves (5-7) will take on East Division Rival Green Bay Bizzard (8-5) this Friday July 7, at 8:30 p.m. in Green Bay, Wisconsin, in a must-win match up for the Wolves in order to keep their playoff hopes alive. Fans can listen to all the action live on WFEA 1370AM.
