MANCHESTER WOLVES (5-7) AT GREEN BAY BLIZZARD (8-5)
FRIDAY, JULY 7, 2006 - The Resch Center (7,995) 8:30 P.M. ET
Coming off a big victory at former No.1-ranked Florida, Green Bay looks to keep the ball rolling as they host Manchester on Friday at The Resch Center. The Blizzard, winners of three straight, were led by QB JAMES MACPHERSON, who threw for 287 yards and four touchdowns. He also added one rushing touchdown. OS BRENT HOLMES was MacPherson's favorite target catching eight passes for 166 yards (game-high) and a score. WR/LB ROBERT GARTH snatched two touchdowns. WR/DB LUKE LEVERSON also made an enormous special teams contribution, returning a kickoff 58 yards for a score. DS RANDEE DREW led Green Bay on defense with 6.0 tackles and four pass break ups. As a unit, the team ranks third in the af2 in scoring defense (42.5 ppg). The Blizzard also rank No. 1 in the league in rushing offense (39.6 yards per game) and rushing touchdowns (36). FB/LB PETER LAZARE is currently tied for third in the af2 with 15 rushing touchdowns. Green Bay has been good with the ball all season, as the squad's plus+13 turnover margin (3rd best in the league) states. The Blizzard are currently just a half-game behind W-B/Scranton for the lead in the East Division. Manchester has struggled with consistency all season, yet are still in the postseason mix despite the squad's 5-7 record. The Wolves hope to stay in the playoff race with a successful showing against Green Bay. The team's most recent result was a 59-49 home loss to Louisville in Week 13. That game featured two of the premier talents in af2, one of which was Wolves OS STEVE GONZALEZ. Gonzalez caught two touchdowns and totaled 170 all-purpose yards. He is currently second in the league in receiving yards and touchdowns. While QB D. BRYANT threw five touchdowns and ran in another, the offense struggled on third down, converting only 2-of-6 opportunities. Bryant also threw two interceptions that were both converted into touchdowns. The Wolves defense was paced by DS WILLIAM HAITH (7.0 tackles, 3 break ups, 1 fumble recovery) and DS BRIAN MANCE (5.5 tackles). In the last meeting between these two teams, Green Bay won 48-34 as Manchester turned the ball over four times. The game was the season opener for the Wolves. Garth led the Blizzard with two scores on seven catches, while Gonzalez scored three times on nine grabs. Bryant threw five touchdowns. The game clinching play that night was from Green Bay DS RONNIE KAYMORE, who scored on a 45-yard fumble return early in the fourth quarter. Despite Bryant's sound play overall this season, Manchester skipper BEN BENNETT stated this week that he's going to start STEVE BELLISARI at QB against the Blizzard. This will be Bellisari's first start of the season. His play early on against a tough defense will tell a great deal about if the Wolves will weather this storm or get snowed under.
