Blazers Ink First Year Goaltender

Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed goaltender Justin Day, Blazers head coach Doug Sauter announced today.

Day, a 6-0, 182-pounder from Sarnia, Ontario recently completed a four-year career at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. Over four seasons with the GoldenHawks, he posted a 36-31-6 record, .897 saves percentage and 3.54 goals against average. His best season between the pipes was the 05-06 campaign when he registered an 11-4-1 record, 2.86 goals against average and .919 saves percentage. The 2004-05 WLU Team Most Valuable Player was named WLU Athlete of the Week five times over his career. Prior to his stint at WLU, he played two seasons with the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League. With Owen Sound, he recorded a 19-19-4 mark, 3.44 goals against average and an .898 saves percentage.

"We worked hard to get Justin to our team," said Sauter. "He is a mature goaltender who was the MVP of his team and had a solid collegiate career. He is aware of our situation here and feels confident he can play at our level."

The addition of Day brings the number of players signed for the 06-07 season to seven. He joins veterans Tyler Fleck, Marty Standish and Peter Robertson as well as defenseman Mike Burgoyne, forward Graham Dearle and goaltender Sean Connors.

The Blazers will open their historic 15th season at home Friday, October 20 at the Ford Center at 7:35 p.m. The remainder of the schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
