Eagles Sign First Defenseman

July 12, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release

WINDSOR, CO- The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League announced today the signing of defenseman Erik Adams. The signing makes Adams the first defenseman for the Eagles in 2006-07.

The upcoming season will be the second season in an Eagles sweater for the fifth year pro from Thunder Bay, Ontario. Last season, the former Denver Pioneers blue liner set career highs with nine goals and 38 penalty minutes. He tallied the second most assists (22) and points (31) of his five-year professional career, while appearing in 55 games. His five game winning goals tied Matt Desrosiers for the most goals in the clutch for defensemen during the 2005-06 campaign. Adams helped the Eagles win their second consecutive Governors' Cup and added three assists in 12 playoff games. It marked his first trip to the post-season since leaving Denver University following his senior year in 2002.

"One of the big reasons I wanted to stay in Colorado is that I know they have a chance to win a title every season, and in the end that's what you play for," said Adams.

Prior to coming to the Eagles, he spent two seasons with the New Mexico Scorpions, playing under family friend Bill McDonald, who is now the head coach of the Austin Ice Bats. In 104 games with New Mexico, Adams scored 10 goals and tallied 54 points, which included a career high 31 assists and 37 points in 2003-04. During his rookie season, he split time in the ECHL with Columbia and Baton Rouge, leading Columbia in rookie scoring with 24 points before he was traded away to the Kingfish.
