Scorpions add versatile rookie to the mix
July 12, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.] The New Mexico Scorpions, proud member of the Central Hockey League (CHL), have signed forward/defenseman Brock McPherson. McPherson is expected to step in immediately as a rookie and be one of Coach Ray Edwards' "impact players."
"Brock is a player who plays big," said Edwards. "He is a forward but may be called upon in certain situations to play defense. I am looking for big things out of Brock in terms of being an impact player for us this season."
McPherson has spent the last three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Last season the 6'1", 220-pounder split time between Brampton and Belleville. The Toronto, Ont. native appeared in 39 games scoring 14 points (8G, 6A).
"I am looking forward to the challenge of professional hockey," said McPherson. "Talking a lot to Coach Edwards and Mike MacPherson (Scorpions Head Scout) really made me want to come to the organization. I know Coach will help me continue to eliminate some of my weaknesses and make me a better hockey player."
The Scorpions continue to build their young nucleus. McPherson is the third rookie signed by New Mexico and, according to Edwards, more are on the way.
"We will be a young and exciting team this year," said Edwards. "We will have a handful of rookies on the team and they will all be expected to play a prominent role for our club."
