February 17, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Oklahoma City Blazers News Release

Oklahoma City skated in three games last week, all on the road, winning once losing once in regulation and once in a shootout. Oklahoma City began its road trip in Wichita on February 14, defeating the Thunder 3-1. Saturday, February 15, the Blazers lost at Indianapolis 5-4. Sunday, February 16, Oklahoma City lost to the Memphis RiverKings 3-2 in a shootout. The Blazers is now 30-17-3, with 63 points and in third place in the Northwest Division of the CHL, two points behind Tulsa.

VALENTINE'S DAY IN WICHITA - The Blazers weren't looking for any love in Wichita on Valentine's Day, just a win. Oklahoma City was able to come away with a 3-1 win. Marty Standish paced the Blazers with two assists. Jonathan Dubois, Ryan Campbell and Dave Shields each had goals. Boyd Ballard stopped 33 of 34 shots in goal for the Blazers

LOOKING FOR THE FIRST WIN AGAINST INDY - Oklahoma City headed on to Indianapolis on February 15 looking for its first victory over the Ice this season. Things were looking good as Oklahoma City held a 4-1 lead in the second period. The Ice stormed back with four unanswered goals to take a 5-4 lead. The Blazers were paced by Joe Burton (1-1-2) who had two points. Dave Shields, Jonathan Dubois and Ryan Watson all scored for Oklahoma City. Boyd Ballard made 31 saves in the loss.

BLAZERS EARN ONE POINT AGAINST THE KINGS - Oklahoma City completed its road trip in Memphis on February 16. Oklahoma City dug itself out of two one-goal holes to force overtime tied at two. After a scoreless overtime session, the RiverKings scored three times in the shootout to take the game 3-2. Blair Manning scored both goals for Oklahoma City while Joe Burton had two assists. Goaltender Ghyslain Rousseau stopped 21 of 23 shots in the loss.

BLOWN LEADS- February 15 looked to be a good day for Oklahoma City. The Blazers held a 4-1 lead over the Northeast Division leading Indianapolis Ice in the second period. Despite allowing two second period goals, the Blazers held the lead at 4-3 heading in to the third period. Heading into that night's game, the Blazers had not lost a game in regulation when leading after two periods since December 27, 1998 to the Wichita Thunder. Oklahoma City had led 127 games after two periods since that time, posting a 123-0-4 record.

SHIELDS SCORES GOALS IN THREE STRAIGHT- Blazers feisty centerman Dave Shields has scored goals in each of his last three games. Despite early season struggles, Shields has come on strong as the season has progressed. In his last eight games played, Shields has seven points (4-3-7). The longest goal scoring string this season belongs to Peter Arvanitis at five straight with a goal.

TWO COULD BE THE LONELIEST NUMBER IN BLAZERS HISTORY - The Three Dog Night song claims that "One is the loneliest number." In Blazers history, two could be the loneliest number. Of the 38 numbers that have been worn all time in Blazers history, only the numbers 19, 21, 55 and 67 have been worn a full season and by only one player. The numbers 1, 2, 8, 25, 36, and 37 have been worn only twice in game action (numbers 1 and 2 have been worn by back up goaltenders who did not see action). The number two was last worn by defenseman Brian Holk during the 1997-98 season. New Blazers defenseman Jim Quilty now wears the number two.

14 GAMES TO GO AND ITS ALL EVEN - Oklahoma City has 14 games left to play in the 2002-03 regular season. The Blazers will play seven games at home and seven on the road to wrap up this campaign.

EACH GAME IS CRITICAL - The Oklahoma City Blazers are in a dogfight for its playoff life. The Northwest Division race is as close as it can be. The Tulsa Oilers led with 65 points, but have skated in one more game that Oklahoma City and two more than Amarillo. Both Oklahoma City and Amarillo each have 63 points, with the Gorillas having played in one fewer game. In the Northeast Division, the Indianapolis Ice lead the Memphis RiverKings 74-63. The Shreveport Mudbugs, bolstered by a 14-0-1 run, are just a point behind Memphis at 62. Only four teams make the postseason. If the playoffs started today based on winning percentage, Memphis and Shreveport would not make the playoffs. Stay tuned, it will be interesting.

FEIST NIGHT WITH THE BLAZERS - Saturday, February 22 is Feist night with the Blazers. A lucky fan could walk away with $1 Million courtesy of Feist and the Blazers.

OU NIGHT WITH THE BLAZERS - Thursday, February 27, the Blazers will wear special crimson and crème jerseys with the OU interlocking logo on the crest. The special jerseys will be auctioned off during the game in a silent auction with the proceeds to benefit the Oklahoma City and Norman public schools.
