San Angelo Saints News Release
Coming Up This Week â The Saints head back out on the road this weekend with games at Oklahoma City on Friday and Fort Worth on Saturday. The ice in the San Angelo coliseum is not available because of the upcoming rodeo â so the team will be practicing in Odessa again this week.
Week In Review â The Saints went 1-0-1 this week with a shootout loss at Amarillo on Friday and a 3-1 win over Wichita on Saturday.
Saints in the City â The Saints players continue to participate in Awards Ceremonies for all the San Angelo elementary schools' Accelerated Reader Programs. Saints players will then be back in our elementary schools for "Grades for Blades" programs for the February report cards. We also have players going out to talk to juvenile offenders at our area Juvenile Detention Center and visiting local hospitals.
February 14th / San Angelo 2 - Amarillo 3 (SO) / The Gorillas opened the scoring in the 1st period as Dorian Anneck put in a rebound at the 10:28 mark to give them a 1-0 lead. Steve Roberts answered for the Saints at the 15:31 mark to tie the score heading into the 2nd period. Amarillo scored the only goal of the 2nd period when Scott Wray gathered another rebound and put it away for a 2-1 advantage. Chris Peach scored the only goal of the 3rd period to tie the game for the Saints and send the game to overtime. After a scoreless overtime period, Amarillo goalie Shawn Degagne saved all 5 Saints shootout attempts and Derek Hahn notched the only goal to give the Gorillas the 3-2 win.
February 15th / San Angelo 3 - Wichita 1 / Steve Roberts (1G, 1A), Chris Peach (1G, 1A) and Brad Cook (2A) each notched two points in the first period as the Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead despite being outshot 14-9 in the period. The Thunder got one back when Tom Gomes scored a power-play goal with just 27 seconds left in the 2nd period to tighten things up heading into the 3rd. Kori Davison's power-play goal at the 14:35 mark sealed the win for the Saints who took 3 of a possible 4 points over the weekend to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.
Playoff Picture â The Saints playoff hopes grew got a little better this weekend â but they still face a n uphill battle for the 4th and final playoff spot. Corpus Christi currently holds the 4th spot with 50 points followed by Lubbock with 48, New Mexico with 47, El Paso with 38 and the Saints with 35. The Saints still have the potential to make a run, though, with 3 games left against both Lubbock and Corpus Christi and one more with New Mexico.
Injury Report â Kelly Miller was added back to the roster off of Injured Reserve this week. To make room for him, the Saints waived forward Joey Grasso. Jason Abel also made his return this week off of Injured Reserve. Jan Jas and Jeff Cheeseman remain on the injured list.
