Woollard, Leslie Earn CHL Honors

February 17, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

Fort Worth Brahmas left winger Chad Woollard and Laredo Bucks netminder Lance Leslie have been selected as the Central Hockey League's Player and Goaltender of the Week for Week 18 of the CHL season. CHL Player of the Week Woollard scored six goals and added three assists in four games to become the first Brahmas to earn weekly recognition from the CHL, while Laredo's Leslie posted two wins for the Bucks and also recorded the first shutout in team history en route to CHL Goaltender of the Week honors.

Woollard, hailing from Durham, Ontario, enjoyed a nine-point week to lead the Brahmas to a pair of victories in four outings. His top performance came in an 8-2 win over visiting Lubbock on February 14th, scoring a hat-trick and adding an assist. Three nights earlier the power forward scored twice in a 5-3 loss to Wichita, and added three points in a 4-3 shootout win over Laredo February 15th, including the game tying goal with just 38 seconds left in regulation. The versatile forward leads the Brahmas with 30 goals, 51 points, and 10 power play goals this season, and won the Accuracy Shootout at the CHL All-Star Game January 23rd in Oklahoma City by hitting all four targets in only five attempts.

In an inaugural season of remarkable accomplishments for the Laredo Bucks, goaltender Lance Leslie posted another team milestone on February 14th by recording the first ever team shutout in a 2-0 win over visiting New Mexico. Leslie turned aside 15 Scorpions shots to earn the shutout, and allowed a total of four goals in his other two games played this week. Leslie sits fourth in the CHL with 24 wins this season, and is sixth among regular starting goaltenders with a goals against average of 2.697. The British Columbia native's play has helped put the first-year Bucks in strong position to qualify for the President's Cup Playoffs with a team record of 32-12-6.
