Blazers C.J. Stretch named Boston Pizza WHL Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB. - The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward C.J. Stretch of the Kamloops Blazers.
Stretch picked up nine points, scoring one goal and eight assists, in four games over the past week, helping the Blazers post a 2-1-0-1 record in that span.
On Tuesday, November 4th, the Blazers welcomed the Chilliwack Bruins to Interior Savings Centre for a B.C. Division match-up. Stretch picked up two assists as the Blazers downed the Bruins 6-3. The following evening, Wednesday, November 5th, the Prince George Cougars travelled into Kamloops to take on the Blazers. Stretch had another two point performance scoring a goal and assist in Kamloops' 6-1 victory of over the Cougars.
The Blazers then took to the road for two games south of the boarder in the WHL U.S. Division. First stop was the Toyota Center on Friday, November 7th where the Tri-City Americans played host to the Blazers. Stretch added another two assists to his weekly total in a game that was neck-and-neck throughout with the Americans eventually coming out on top with a 5-4 shoot-out win. On Sunday, November 9th the Blazers were in Portland to take on the Winter Hawks. Stretch picked up three assists in a contest that saw the Winter Hawks erase a 5-2 third period deficit to defeat the Blazers 7-5 in regulation.
With the Blazers collecting five out of a possible eight points on the week they remain .500 with a 10-10-0-3 record and find themselves just one point back of the Kelowna Rockets for second place in the WHL B.C. Division.
Stretch, a 19-year-old from Irvine, California, is currently in his fourth season in the Western Hockey League and with the Kamloops Blazers. He has appeared in 224 Blazers' games to date accumulating 108 points over that span.
The WHL has also nominated Tyson Sexsmith of the Vancouver Giants for the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. On Friday, November 7th, the Giants travelled to Prince George to take on the Cougars at CN Centre. Sexsmith stopped all 24 shots faced as the Giants shut-out the Cougars 5-0. He was also named the games 3rd Star.
The victory marked Sexsmith's 22nd career shut-out, giving him sole possession of top spot in that category in the WHL. He surpasses Bryan Bridges (Kootenay/Seattle, 2001-06) and Leland Irving (Everett, 2003-08) who both ended their WHL careers with 21 shut-outs. Sexsmith set the record in his 138th WHL game played; Bridges played 213 games while Irving had a 195 game career.
Sexsmith, an 19-year-old from Priddis, AB, is in his fourth season in the Western Hockey League was selected in the 3rd round, by the San Jose Sharks, at the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
