
Blast Wins First Game in New Year

The Blast took on the Missouri Comets tonight for the first time since beating them in the MISL Championship last season. Both teams fought for second place in the league and each had a 5-2 record prior to tonight's match. At half time the teams were tied 4-4 but in the second half the Blast picked it up and won with a final score of 14-6.
The first quarter was very evenly matched and both teams had six shots apiece. The Comets got on the board first when Robert Palmer scored off an assist from Vahid Assadpour 1:09 into the game. A minute later Vahid Assadpour assisted the Comet's second goal to Leo Gibson. The Blast had not let down and with 3:18 left on the clock Tony Donatelli scored off an assist from Marco Mangione. At the end of the first quarter, The Comets led the Blast 2-4.
Aduato Neto broke the Comet's 4-2 lead 5 minutes into the second quarter off an assist from Tony Donatelli. At the end of the first half, the Blast and Comets were tied 4-4.
When 5:32 was left in the third quarter, the Blast took the lead when Aduato Neto assisted Lucio Gonzaga's goal in a power play. Three minutes later, Gonzaga scored his second straight goal off of Tony Donatelli's assist. Gonzaga's two goals really picked up the Blast's momentum and a minute later, Max Ferdinand scored the first 3-point goal of the night unassisted.
Missouri's Leo Gibson scored his second goal of the night 2 minutes into the 4th quarter off an assist by Lucas Rodriguez. Less than one minute left in the game, Tony Donatelli scored a 3-point goal, his second of the night, unassisted. At the final whistle the Blast beat the Comets 14-6.
Tony Donatelli led the offense tonight with 7 points. He scored one 2-point goal, one 3-point goal, and added two assists. Goalkeeper William Vanzela played an outstanding game and recorded 9 saves. The Blast now has a 6-2 record and plays the Pennsylvania Roar tomorrow night at 7:35pm at the Baltimore Arena.
