St. Louis Ambush News Release
St. Charles, MO - The first place Milwaukee Wave improved their standing when they slipped by the St. Louis Ambush 13-11 at the Family Arena Friday night. The Wave (7-1) were a last-minute replacement for the Rochester Lancers, who were forced to change travel plans when a severe winter storm buried the northeast. The Ambush (3-6) will now host the Lancers tomorrow at 1:35 p.m. at the Family Arena.
Chad Vandegriffe put St. Louis on the board first when he scored at 7:51 of the opening stanza off an assist by Brian Groark. The Wave drew even when Pablo put the ball past goalkeeper Jeff Richey at 14:33. It would take only twelve seconds for the Ambush to take back the lead when Matt Kimball found the back of the net at 14:45.
It would be Kimball and Pablo again scoring for their respective teams in the second period. St. Louis increased their lead to 6-2, with Kimball's second tally of the game at 8:23. Pablo answered for Milwaukee just 41 seconds later and the quarter ended with the Ambush holding a 6-4 advantage.
Milwaukee took a 9-6 lead with the first two goals in the fourth quarter with a two-pointer by JC Banks and a three-pointer Pablo to complete the hat trick. Kory Dowell answered for St. Louis with a three-pointer of his own. It was his fourth three-point tally of the season to tie the game 9-9. Victor Quiroz put Milwaukee back on top with a restart goal at 5:52 and Marcio Leite increased the Wave's lead to 13-9 at 12:49. With the Ambush employing the sixth attacker, Mike Roach put St. Louis within two with just 36 seconds remaining, but it wouldn't be enough as the clock ran out and Milwaukee enjoyed a hard-fought 13-11 win.
Prior to tomorrow's matinee game, fans can enjoy a Police-Fire friendly soccer match at 11:45 a.m. to benefit Responder Rescue. The Ambush-Lancers duel is slated for 1:35 p.m.
