Blast trades defender to Cleveland
October 13, 2004 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Baltimore Blast News Release
Baltimore â Baltimore Blast General Manager Kevin Healey announced today that the team has traded defender Wendell Regis to the Cleveland Force for Cleveland's fourth-round draft choice in this year's MISL Amateur Draft. Regis, an eight-year veteran of the MISL/NPSL, spent two seasons with the Blast.
"Wendell is a quality player and contributed to our championship team, on and off the field," Healey said. "We are happy to be able to extend his career in the MISL by completing this trade."
Regis began his indoor career in 1996-97 with the Harrisburg Heat, and was a member of Baltimore's back-to-back MISL championships in 2003 and 2004. A native of Trinidad, Regis suffered a possibly career-ending injury in 2000 but returned to the playing field a year later. The 5-10, 170-pound defender played an eight-game stint in Baltimore during the 1997-98 season before joining the Blast prior to the 2002-03 season. A graduate of Howard University, he spent four seasons with the Heat and played for Trinidad's Olympic Qualifying team.
In exchange for Regis, the Blast acquired Cleveland's fourth-round pick in this year's MISL Amateur Draft. The Blast has four players who were selected in Amateur Drafts since 2001 â Giuliano Celenza, Billy Nelson, P.J. Wakefield and Carlos Garcia.
The Blast will play its first home game of the 2004-05 season this Saturday night against the Sockers. The home opener will feature the team's 2004 MISL Championship celebration complete with a banner-raising and ring-presentation ceremony and the return of several of last season's players.
