(SAN DIEGO, Calif.) - The San Diego Sockers swept all Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Player of the Week honors in the first week of the 2004-05. Steve Butcher, Ryan Mack and Victor Nogueira took Offensive, Defensive and Goalkeeper of the Week in the MISL's opening game at the San Diego Sports Arena.

Steve Butcher scored the game-winning goal at 11:34 in the fourth and assisted on the insurance goal to Mariano Bollella in the victory. Acquired in an off-season trade with the St. Louis Steamers, Butcher led all scorers Saturday night with two goals and an assist. In his last season with the Steamers, Butcher led the team with 31 goals and 17 assists for 48 points.

Sockers' newcomer Ryan Mack had two blocks in the game but his key contribution to the team's victory was the assist to Butcher to tie the game 2-2, early in the third. The 24-year-old Detroit, Mich. native is in his first season with San Diego. Mack, who totaled 25 goals and 34 assists during his NCA career at Indiana University (1998-2000, 2002), was named the Big Ten Conference's Player of the Year in 2000, and was selected for All-Big Ten honors in 2002. He played professionally this summer with the Syracuse Salty Dogs of the A-League.

Victor Nogueira, playing in his 25th season as a professional, notched his 452nd win this past weekend, saving 7 of 10 shots faced, three from point-blank range late in the game. He is an eight-time MISL Goalkeeper of the Year and now has 9,410 saves in his career. Last season, he won Goalkeeper of the Week five times and was named Goalkeeper of the Month for December.
