Blast to field Brazilian trio in 2004-05

Baltimore – Baltimore Blast General Manager Kevin Healey announced today that goalkeeper Martin Konig and defender Adilson DeLima have signed MISL Offer Sheets and will join the Blast for the upcoming 2004-05 season. The Blast also announced that Max Thompson, a member of Baltimore's 1983-84 Championship team, will return to the Blast as the Assistant Coach. The Blast started training camp yesterday and will play its first home game of the season on Saturday, October 16 at 1st Mariner Arena.

"We are very pleased to add Martin and Adilson to our roster," Healey said. "They are both very talented players. While there will be an adjustment period for them indoors, we believe they will make excellent contributions to our team this year. The Blast organization is also excited to announce Max Thompson's return to our city. Max will be an outstanding compliment to Tim."

Konig and DeLima, both Brazilians, will join Denison Cabral to form Baltimore's Brazilian Trio. Konig, a 21-year year-old goalkeeper who plays for the Brazilian National Futsal Team, joins Brian Rowland and Karim Moumban as one of three Blast goalkeepers this season. Konig played professionally in Brazil before moving to the United States less than two years ago. DeLima, who spent the 2003 and 2004 A-League seasons with the Atlanta Silverbacks, recorded nine points this season for the Silverbacks. Prior to the A-League, he played professionally in Brazil and Qatar.

In addition to Konig and DeLima, the Blast also announced today that Max Thompson will be making his return to Baltimore in the capacity of Assistant Coach. Thompson played two seasons as a defender for the Blast in the original MISL (1983-85), recording six goals and six assists (12 points) in 39 career games. He is expected to join the team on September 22.

The Blast will play two preseason games against the Philadelphia KiXX; the first of which will be held on Friday, September 24 at Du Burns Arena. The second preseason match will be Tuesday, September 28 at Tri-State Sports at 7 p.m. Tri-State Sports, the practice facility for the KiXX, is located in Aston, Pa. Tickets for the game at Du Burns Arena are available at Du Burns for $5. All proceeds from the September 24th game at Du Burns Arena will go to the Brian Hunt Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Blast season tickets and mini-plans are on sale now by calling the Blast office at 410-73-BLAST. Single-game tickets will go on sale in late September.
