Blast selects two players in 2004 MISL Dispersal Draft
September 30, 2004 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Baltimore Blast News Release
Baltimore â The Baltimore Blast selected two players in yesterday's MISL dispersal draft of former Dallas Sidekicks players. The dispersal draft took place Wednesday afternoon after the League announced earlier this month that the Dallas Sidekicks will sit out the 2004-05 season. The Blast had the eighth pick in each of the draft's eight rounds and selected forwards Patrick Shamu and Beau Brown in the first and second rounds, respectively.
The Blast selected Shamu in the first round of yesterday's draft (eighth overall pick). Shamu, a nine-year veteran of the indoor game, spent his entire career with the Sidekicks prior to the team's decision to take a one-year hiatus during the 2004-05 season. The 5-7, 140-pound native of Zaire, spent the majority of his career in the CISL and WISL before the Sidekicks joined the MISL prior to the 2002-03 season. In two seasons in the MISL, he recorded 37 goals and 14 assists. He was a 1997 CISL All Star and was named to the 1995 CISL All-Rookie team in 1995. Shamu, 30, was a member of Dallas' 1998 and 2001 WISL Championship teams.
In the second round, the Blast selected forward Beau Brown with the 17th overall selection. Brown played his first MISL season in 2003-04, recording 14 goals and seven assists for 21 points in 29 Sidekicks games. Prior to last season, he spent one season with Dallas in the CISL and WISL and three seasons with Utah's WISL team. Brown, 5-10, 150-pounds, played on the Sidekicks' 1998 WISL Championship team and played collegiate soccer at West Texas A&M.
