(Westport, Conn., Sept. 30, 2004) â The Major Indoor Soccer League held a dispersal draft for the Dallas Sidekicks on Wednesday via a teleconference with the League's nine teams competing in the 2004-05 season. MISL Commissioner Steve Ryan announced on Monday, September 13, 2004, that the Dallas Sidekicks club would be inactive for the upcoming 2004-05 MISL season. The selection order for the Dallas dispersal draft permitted the expansion Chicago Storm to select in the #1 position. The selection order for the remaining MISL teams, was based on team's win percentage from the 2003-2004 regular season from lowest winning percentage to highest winning percentage.
As per MISL Policy, the Sidekicks retained the right to designate four players from their current roster who will remain on their protected list until the start of the following season. The Sidekicks designated the following players as protected: goalkeeper Xavier Edilson "Sagu", midfielder Ricardo Cavalcante "Ricardinho", defender Leo Pernia, and midfielder Fabio Ribeiro "Fabinho." Selections will continue until either all Sidekicks players are selected or all teams pass in the same round.
The Major Indoor Soccer League is a single-entity organization featuring a coast-to-coast presence with eight teams located across the United States and a ninth team in Monterrey, Mexico. On February 27, the League announced an expansion team in Stockton, CA, that will begin play in 2005-06.
