Blast Fall to Rampage 6-5; Clinch Eastern Division Title

Baltimore Blast News Release


The Blast fall to Cedar Rapids by a score of 6-5. With Florida losing to San Diego tonight, Baltimore clinched the Eastern Division title. Cedar Rapids clinched a playoff berth with the win. Gordy Gurson had two goals and one assist for the Rampage.

Baltimore got on the board first, on a goal by Jonatas Melo at 10:32 of the first quarter. Cedar Rapids answered with two straight goals to take the lead. Victor France scored and Derek Huffman scored on a free kick restart to go up 2-1. Jonathan Greenfield got his first goal with the Blast against his former team to tie the game at 2-2 going in to halftime.

Cedar Rapids got off to a quick start in the second half, scoring two straight goals in the first 4 minutes. Goals by Gordy Gurson and Mohamed Kenawy gave the Rampage a 2-goal lead. The Blast answered with 2 straight goals in the last 5 minutes of the quarter. Nelson Santana and Tony Donatelli scored for Baltimore to tie the game. Vini Dantas scored for the Blast to break the tie in the 4th quarter. Cedar Rapids answered with two straight goals to end the game. Phibo Arriaga scored and Gordy Gurson got the game-winning goal with 41 seconds left for the Rampage.

The loss snaps Baltimore's 9-game winning streak. The Blast went 1-2 on the power play and Cedar Rapids was 0-2 with the man advantage. Vini Dantas had one goal and two assists for Baltimore. Blast goalkeeper Joey Kapinos had 6 saves in the game. Rainer Hauss recorded 8 saves for Cedar Rapids.

The Blast are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, February 17th in Milwaukee to take on the Wave at 8:05 p.m. EST. The game can be streamed at MASL.tv or on the MASL app.
