January 21, 2022 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Baltimore Blast News Release
Baltimore, MD - Returning home to Baltimore after a victory against Utica City, the Blast would take on Ontario for the first time this season at Towson SECU Arena. This would be the second match between the Blast and the Fury in the MASL all-time. The Blast fell to the Fury, 4-10.
The Blast jumped out to an early lead when Jonatas Melo scored the opening goal of the game. This would be the only goal of the quarter as both teams played solid defense limiting opportunities. Starting off the second quarter, Thiago Goncalves would take advantage of the powerplay, recording Ontario's first goal of the night. Lucas Roque would answer for the Blast seconds later giving the Blast a one-point lead. Justin Stinson would tie up the game, 2-2, with his first goal of the night. Ontario would take their first lead of the night when Justin Stinson scored two back-to-back goals cutting the Blast lead by one. Franck Tayou would also record his first and second goals of the night. Ontario maintained possession for the majority of the second quarter, ending the half with four unanswered goals from Baltimore, 2-5. Ontario outshot Baltimore 7 to 15 in the first half.
The Fury would maintain their strong lead into the second half, when Chris Toth and Robert Palmer both recorded their first goals of the night. Mike Deasel would answer for the Blast with his first goal of the season, cutting Ontario's five-point lead by one. This would be the only goal for the Blast during the third quarter.
The Blast would score the first goal of the fourth quarter when Tony Donatelli found the back of the net, cutting Ontario's lead to 3. Franck Tayou would record his third goal of the night, extending the Fury lead, 4-8. The Blast would move to a sixth-attacker offense with Max Ferdinand. Unfortunately, this decision did not give the Blast the outcome they were hoping for, as Justin Stinson would take advantage of the empty net, recording his third and fourth goal of the night. The Blast fought hard but ultimately fell to Ontario, 4-10.
The Blast were led by Lucas Roque with one goal and one assist, Jonatas Melo, Mike Deasel, and Tony Donatelli each with one goal. Assists by Jamie Thomas and Josh Hughes. Goalkeeper, William Vanzela, recorded 11 saves.
