Blast Defeat Wave 14-10

After the Blast defeated the Wave 13-8 on Friday night the teams returned to the field for a Saturday night rematch. In a game well played game from both sides, the Blast defeated the Wave 14-10.

The game got off to a fast start with 4 goals scored in the first quarter. The Wave took the first lead of the game when JC banks scored at the 4:55 mark off an assist from Tony Walls. At the 6:09 mark Marcio Leite found the corner of the net for another Wave goal. The Blast were able to get on the board when Vini Dantas, who was making his Blast debut, scored off an assist from Jonatas Melo. With 5 minutes remaining in the quarter JC Banks recorded his second goal of the game putting the Wave back up by 4.

Both teams played tight defense in the second quarter and no goals were scored. The Blast outshot the Wave 3-1 and William Vanzela entered the half with 7 saves. Pat Healey and Kaoru Forbess contributed blocks in the strong defensive showing.

The second half picked up right where the fist half left off with both teams playing tight defense. The Blast were able to break through the Wave defense with 2 goals in the quarter. Lucas Roque scored first for his 10th goal of the season assisted by Tony Donatelli on a power play. Right before the quarter expired Levi Houapeu was able to assist Lucio Gonzaga for a goal to tie the game at 6.

Only 43 seconds into the quarter the Blast took the lead when Diego Zuniga was able to head in a goal off a pass from Lucas Roque. Once the Blast got their first lead of the game they never looked back. Lucas Roque extended the Blast lead at the 6:17 mark with a goal assisted by Levi Houpeau and 2 minutes later Lucio Gonzaga received a pass from Lucas Roque and was able to put a ball off the wall into the back of the net to extend the Blast lead to 6. The Wave cut into the lead after adding a 6th attacker and converting with a goal from Tony Walls but Vini Dantas answered right back for the Blast with his second goal of the night to seal the Blast victory. At the final buzzer the Blast defeated the Wave 14-10.

The Blast move to 6-0 on the season. Lucas Roque led the offense with 4 points on two goals and two assists. Lucio Gonzaga and Vini Dantas also recorded 2 goals in the win. William Vanzela recorded 17 saves in goal while the blast defense recorded 8 blocks with Pat Healey leading the way with 2. Blast coach Danny Kelly said "it was a tale of two halves again tonight after we struggled in the first half we made some adjustments at halftime and played a much better second half".

The Blast travel to Syracuse next weekend for a matchup with the Silver Knights on Friday December 19th at 7:30 p.m.
