
Blast Defeat Sockers 8-5

Baltimore Blast News Release
The Blast hosted the San Diego Sockers in Baltimore for the first time since 2004 on Friday night. In front of 8,953 fans the Blast were able to defeat the Sockers 8-5 and remain undefeated.
The game got off to a fast start with 6 goals scored in the opening quarter. The Blast took the lead only 29 seconds into the game when Onua Obasi found the back of the net off an assist from Tony Donatelli. The Sockers answered with a goal from Eddie Valez to tie the game at 1. At the 4:09 mark Adriano Dos Santos was able to beat the defense and take the ball the length of the field and put the Blast back on top. That lead would not last long as :37 second later Evan McNeley scored his second goal of the year for the Sockers. The Blast would regain control when goalkeeper William Vanzela brought the ball past midfield and set up Juan Pereira for his 2nd goal of the season. Blast captain, Pat Healey, then extended the Blast lead to 2 with a goal assisted by Lucas Roque before the end of the quarter. At the end of the first the Blast led 4-2.
Both teams exchanged goals in the second quarter. Victor Quiroz converted a power-play goal for the Sockers but the Blast would answer with a goal from Jinho Kim. This was Kim's second goal of the season and Lucas Roque recorded his second assist. At the half the Blast led 5-3.
The second half picked up right where the first one left off. Pat Healey was able to score at the 6:13 for his second goal of the game. The goal was assisted by Tony Donatelli, his second of the game, to extend the Blast lead to three. Kraig Chiles, the Sockers leading goal scorer, converted a free kick for a Socker goal. The Blast entered the final quarter leading 6-4.
Less than a minute into the final quarter Vini Dantas, who has scored in all 5 of the Blast games this season, recorded a power play goal to extend the Blast lead. This was Dantas' team leading 8th goal of the year and was assisted by Lucas Roque. Adriano Dos Santos recorded his 3rd goal of the season at the 2:43 mark off an assist from Vini Dantas putting the Blast up by 4. The Sockers would get a late goal by Nick Perera but it would not be enough. The final score was Blast 8 Sockers 5.
The Blast move to 5-0 on the season. Pat Healey and Adriano Dos Santos led the offense with 2 goals each. Lucas Roque added 3 assists while the Blast had 9 players record a point in the victory. Goalkeeper, William Vanzela, recorded 9 saves. The Blast will hit the road next Friday, December 11th, to take on the Syracuse Silver Knights at 7:30p.m. from the OnCenter Arena.
