Jackson Generals News Release
Jackson, Tenn. - Jabari Blash and Jordy Lara each blasted three-run home runs as the Jackson Generals overpowered the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in a 15-4 win at The Ballpark at Jackson on Monday. Jackson smashed its season high for runs in a game and also earned a 3-2 series victory against Pensacola.
Eight of Jackson's nine starters recorded at least one hit and one run in a balanced effort, including a 3-for-3 performance by Tyler Smith that included a pair of RBI doubles. Jake Zokan (1-0) picked up his first Double-A victory and combined with three Generals relievers to allow no walks to the Blue Wahoos.
Blash capped a six-run rally in the second inning with his first round-tripper of the season. Jabari Henry put up a run-scoring double and later came in on a passed ball for Jackson's first runs. Smith doubled in Dan Paolini for a 3-0 advantage. Blash batted next, crushing a three-run blast to left field off Wandy Peralta (1-3) to give Jackson a 6-0 lead. It was the third six-run rally by the Generals in the series.
Steve Baron carried Jackson in a three-run third inning, pushing the lead to 9-0. His two-out double against Layne Somsen plated Gabriel Guerrero and Henry. Baron stole third base and scored on a throwing error.
Pensacola (7-17) posted its first run during the top of the fourth. Ryan Wright and Marquez Smith opened the inning with back-to-back singles against Zokan. Kyle Waldrop followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Wright and cut Jackson's lead to 9-1.
Lara's first home run led Jackson (10-12) to a 14-1 advantage in the fifth inning. Jack Reinheimer singled to bring in Paolini earlier in the frame. Two batters later, Blash flied into a force out that allowed Baron to score. Chad Rogers came in from the bullpen to face Lara, who lifted a three-run, 419-foot homer onto the clubhouse roof behind the left field wall.
Waldrop answered with a three-run blast of his own to cut Jackson's lead to 14-4. With one out in the sixth inning, Waldrop lined a home run off the top of the right field wall and over to knock Zokan out of the contest. The southpaw threw 5.1 innings and allowed just four runs while earning the win.
The Generals scored the game's final run in the seventh inning. Reinheimer and Smith tagged Rogers for back-to-back doubles with Reinheimer scoring on Smith's hit for a 15-4 winning margin.
In a scoreless eighth inning, both teams had notable performances on the mound. Jackson's Moises Hernandez pitched a scoreless frame in his 133rd career appearance with the Generals. He is now tied with former Diamond Jaxx/Generals pitcher Nick Hill for second in franchise history in appearances. For Pensacola, infielder Ray Chang came in and danced his knuckleball to a 1-2-3 inning of relief.
Jackson is idle on Tuesday before heading to Chattanooga for a five-game series with the Lookouts. James Gillheeney (2-1, 1.65) will start Jackson's road opener at Chattanooga, which is scheduled to start 6:15 p.m. CT on Wednesday evening. Tune in for Brandon Liebhaber's call of the game on the TJ Network (AM 1390, FM 94.1 and 94.3), starting at 6:00 p.m. with the Jackson Generals Pregame Show protected by the Tennessee Army National Guard.
