Blades Team up with Dahlgren's Diabeauties
November 14, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release
November is National Diabetes Awareness Month and today, November 14th, is National Diabetes Awareness Day.
Prior to Tuesday's Blades game, the Saskatoon Blades teamed up with Saskatoon's own Kaleb Dahlgren to support his initiative and acknowledge his work with Type 1 Diabetes. Kaleb started Dahlgren's Diabeauties which is an advocacy program for youth with Type 1 Diabetes. Dahlgren has had Type 1 Diabetes since the age of four and had to learn how to balance his passion for hockey and having Type 1 Diabetes.
While he played with the Humboldt Broncos, Kaleb started Dahlgren's Diabeauties so he could let youth with Type 1 Diabetes know they can live their lives to the absolute fullest. Several members of Dahlgren's Diabeauties including Johnathon Keffer, Josie Mirva, Josh Cannon, Jack Stephen, and Duke Brochu were at the game. The children were presented with special Dahlgren's Diabeauties jerseys and participated in a ceremonial puck drop. Kaleb's parents, Mark and Anita Dahlgren, were also in attendance.
Kaleb has continued his Diabeauties program while away with the York University Lions in Toronto.
