Blades Slip Up against Hurricanes

The Saskatoon Blades came face-to-face with a hot goaltender and ended up on the losing end of a 3-1 decision to the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday evening at Credit Union Centre.

Stefan Elliott (North Vancouver, BC) scored the only goal of the game for the Blades, who have now lost two straight games.

Lethbridge - 2nd - Ryon Moser (Neil Tarnasky, Philip Tot) 3:14 Moser opened the scoring early in the middle frame with his 3rd of the season. After Adam Morrison (White Rock, BC) had trouble corralling a puck in the crease, Moser found the loose puck and had it bounce off his ankle to the back of the net.

Lethbridge - 2nd - Moser (Tot, Tarnasky) 7:54 The Hurricanes went up 2-0 just over four minutes later when Moser came out of the corner with the puck and ricocheted it off of Morrison's skate blade into the net for his second of the night and 4th of the year.

Saskatoon - 3rd - Elliott (Jyri Niemi, Walker Wintoneak) 1:56 The Blades made it 2-1 early in the third after Elliott took a shot from the point that hit a body in front and handcuffed Hurricanes' goaltender Brandon Anderson for his 15th on the campaign.

Lethbridge - 3rd - Cam Braes (Mitch Maxwell, Brennan Yadlowski) 4:15 pp The road team went up by two goals again a short time later. Maxwell took a shot from the point that hit Braes in front. The veteran forward then twisted and backhand in his 12th of the season and it was 3-1.

Morrison stopped 6 of 8 shots in a losing cause before getting pulled midway through the second period. Steven Stanford (Calgary, AB) came on in relief and turned aside 13 of 14 shots sent his way. Anderson came up with a huge effort in the Lethbridge net and made 33 saves to earn the victory.

Final score Lethbridge Hurricanes 3, Saskatoon Blades 1.

With the loss, the Blades see their season mark go to 29-9-1-3 for 62 points and still remain in first place in the Eastern Conference. The Hurricanes improve to 14-23-3-2 for 33 points and sit 5th in the Central Division.

The Blades return to the ice this week with a pair of home games at Credit Union Centre. On Tuesday, the Swift Current Broncos are in town to take on the Blades. The next night, the Calgary Hitmen make their second and final visit to Saskatoon of the season. Game time both nights is 7:05 pm.
