Saskatoon Blades News Release
The Saskatoon Blades returned home to SaskTel Centre for game three and treated over 7600 fans to a 1-0 shutout victory over the Prince Albert Raiders on Tuesday night. Saskatoon now trails the best-of-seven series 2-1 with game four going Wednesday night at SaskTel Centre.
Kirby Dach (5) scored the only goal of the contest 4:21 into the first period after a scramble in front of the Raider goal. Nolan Kneen and Ryan Hughes had the assists on the tally, which ended up being the game winner.
Nolan Maier pitched a 26 save shutout, the first of his post-season career, to earn a call out for second star of the game. The 18-year-old Yorkton, Saskatchewan, product was especially busy in the third period as the Raiders made a late push with the net empty and outshot the Blades 10-8 in the final frame. His counterpart at the other end, Ian Scott, was named third star thanks to an impressive 26 saves of his own.
There were only five minor penalties and a total of 50 face-offs taken, so there was plenty of flow to the game. Neither team found success on the power play; the Blades were 0/2 and the Raiders were 0/1.
Still trailing in the series, Saskatoon's bench boss was quick to acknowledge the importance of staying even keel and resetting for game four.
"We found a way to win a hockey game," said Blades head coach Mitch Love. "I'm sure they'll be elevating their play even more tomorrow, so we're going to have to be even better than we thought we were tonight."
Game four of the series goes Wednesday night at SaskTel Centre at 7:00pm. Doors open at 6:00pm and tickets are available at the SaskTel Centre box offices and online.
