Saskatoon Blades News Release
The Saskatoon Blades were slow out of the gates but after Curtis Hamilton got the Blades on the board they never looked back.
The Warriors silenced the crowd early with a nicely executed 2 on 1 to put the Warriors up 1-0 7:31 into the game. Two minutes later the Blades responded when Chris Langkow made a perfect cross crease pass to Hamilton who put in his 18th of the season. The line of Derek Hulak, Burke Gallimore, and Milan Kytnar displayed some beautiful playmaking when they executed one of the prettiest Blades goals of the season, with Gallimore finishing off the play into the open cage. Teigan Zahn scored his 5th of the year before the period ended as he sent a harmless looking shot towards the net that took a couple bounces and found the back of the net.
Early in the second period while on a 5 on 3 man advantage, Walker Wintoneak tipped home a Jyri Niemi pass for his team leading 28th goal of the year. Blades over-ager Colin Joe scored for the second straight game as he received a great pass from Adam Chorneyko and buried it for his 5th. Quinton Howden made the score 5-2 before Charles Inglis potted his 7th and 8th goals of the season before the second period ended to put the Blades up 7-2.
The Warriors added two goals in the 3rd period before captain Derek Hulak ripped a shot blocker side while shorthanded to make the final score 8-4.
Braden Holtby made 24 saves on 28 shots while the Blades PP was 2/5 and the PK was 7/7.
The Blades now travel to Brandon this weekend for back to back games against the Wheat Kings. The weekend games and Tuesday's home game against Brandon will be huge as Brandon and Saskatoon battle for the East Division Pennant. The Blades remain 4 points ahead of the Wheat Kings, who have a game in hand. Tuesday's game at CUC is raincheck night so get your tickets now as it promises to be a large crowd.
