Blades Launch New Uniform Design

September 9, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release

The Saskatoon Blades launched a new look in time for the 2009-10 season at a ceremony today at City Hall Square.

The new uniform look was unveiled as part of a Canadian Hockey League-wide launch done in conjunction with Reebok Hockey. The Reebok EDGE Uniform System was introduced by each of the CHL's 60 teams today at events across the three member leagues.

Keeping the same colour and logo, the Blades new look features modified striping on the sleeves and collar, in addition to a more prominent use of the secondary silver and Air Force blue.

The principal component in the change, however, is the upgraded durability and ventilation provided by the materials put together for the Reebok EDGE Uniform System. The uniform system, already in use by the National Hockey League and American Hockey League, was first launched at the 2007 NHL All-Star Game and will be featured in the 2009 SUBWAY® Super Series and the 2010 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.

The following benefits are provided by the Reebok Edge Jersey:

- Pro Weight AirKnit™ front panel for optimum ventilation and breathability

- Four-way stretch mesh for the underarm and back areas provides the ideal balance of ease of movement and ventilation

- Xtrafil™ heavy duty fabric provides durability in the high abrasion areas (elbows and shoulders)

"Reebok Hockey proudly welcomes the CHL as part of our EDGE team. Every player in the league will now benefit from the same advantages as the pros with our lightweight, moisture-wicking materials and innovative design," said Glen Thornborough, VP Global Sports Marketing Reebok-CCM. "These young players are the future of the sport and now have the best products available to them. We're excited to provide them with the tools needed to advance to the next level."

Reebok Hockey has been the exclusive jersey provider for the CHL since the 2003-04 season, and in addition to jerseys, the CHL currently uses The Hockey Company products exclusively in the following categories: helmets, gloves, pants, hockey socks, performance underwear, and all under-protective equipment.

The Blades will make the on-ice debut of the jerseys at the 2009-10 Regular Season home opener on Friday, September 18th against the Regina Pats.

Fans can be the first to purchase their all-new Saskatoon Blades RBK Edge Replica Jerseys in adult and youth sizes at the Saskatoon Blades Team Store this Friday, September 11th, as the Blades host the Prince Albert Raiders in an exhibition matchup at Credit Union Centre. Game time is 7:00 pm.

The Saskatoon Blades 2009-10 Regular Season kicks off Friday, September 18th as the Blades take on the Regina Pats in the 92.9 The Bull Home Opener. The Blades will raise the 2008-09 East Division banner to the rafters prior to puck drop. Doors open at 5:30 pm.
