
Blades Down Generals 4-3

GREENSBORO, NC - The Florida Everblades (12-3-3) defeated the Greensboro Generals (12-6-0) 4-3 in front of 2,802 at the Greensboro Coliseum on Thanksgiving night. Forward Carl Mallette picked up one goal and one assist including the game winner in the third period in the Everblades sixth straight victory. The Blades remained in first place in the Southern Division with the win.
In the first period, the Generals grabbed a 1-0 lead after forward Eric Fortier slipped the puck past Florida goaltender Jeff Maund when it redirected off the back wall and on to Fortier's stick. However, the Everblades tied the game at 1-1 just :12 seconds later when rookie forward Gray Shaneberger stole the puck deep in the Generals zone, skated out of the corner and lifted the puck over the glove of Generals goaltender Daniel Berthiaume at the 16:00 mark of the period. The Everblades peppered the Generals with 20 shots in the first period.
In the second period, the Generals grabbed a 2-1 lead after forward Sam Ftorek got behind the Florida defense, went in on a breakaway and lifted a shot over the glove hand of goaltender Jeff Maund. Florida came right back and made it 2-2 after forward Carl Mallette got around a Generals defenseman and sent a shot that deflected off of the pad of the Generals goaltender and went right to forward Jay Legault who backhanded the puck into the open net on the rebound. However, the Generals got the lead back on the power play late in the period after forward Matt Turek one timed a shot into the net to give Greensboro a 3-2 lead heading into the third period.
In the third period, the Everblades tied the score at 3-3 after Reggie Berg sent a bad angle shot that went through a screen and into the net. The Everblades then took a 4-3 lead with just over six minutes to play when defenseman Paul Esdale sent a shot on net that forward Carl Mallette tipped past Generals goaltender Daniel Berthiaume.
Florida goaltender Jeff Maund (7-1-0) stopped 44 of 47 shots he faced while Greensboro netminder Daniel Berthiaume (12-5-0) stopped 40 of 44 shots he faced. The Everblades were 0 for 4 on the power play while the Generals were 1 for 6.
