'Blades Agree to Terms with Leading Goal Scorer Rutherford

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush along with Head Coach Greg Poss announced Tuesday that the team has agreed to terms with forward David Rutherford for the 2012-13 season.
Rutherford, 25, returns to Florida after finishing last season with 55 points, including a team leading 25 goals. Rutherford also added 12 points in 17 playoff games to help lead the club to its first Kelly Cup title.
The championship was not the first for Rutherford who has won titles with Bossier-Shreveport of the Central Hockey League in 2011, and a Memorial Cup with Spokane (WHL) in 2008.
"We are very excited about the opportunity to bring back David for next season," said Poss. "He was our leading goal scorer, runs the point on the power play, and he brings a strong work ethic every single day."
The Ladner, British Columbia native appeared in 64 ECHL games during the 2008-09 season, posting 36 points (19g, 17a) split between Charlotte and Phoenix. In his two seasons with Bossier-Shreveport, Rutherford totaled 105 points (53g, 52a) in 99 games played from 2009-2011. Rutherford registered 22 points in 20 playoff games during the Mudbugs' championship run in 2011.
Last season Rutherford posted a 17-game home point scoring streak (Nov. 18 to Feb. 18) scoring 23 points (10g, 13a) during that stretch. He also recorded a hat trick in a November 25 game at Kalamazoo. The Everblades will open up their 15th anniversary season at home on October 13 against the Orlando Solar Bears!
