Brampton Steelheads News Release

Mississauga, ON - Sunday's matinee at the Hershey Centre featured a divisional match up with top spot in the Eastern Conference's Central Division on the line as the Barrie Colts made the trip down the 400 to take on the Steelheads at the Hershey Centre. Tied atop the Central Division, the Colts looks to rebound from a 6-5 loss at the hands of the Hamilton Bulldogs last night as the Steelheads look to continue their winning form, fresh off a 2-0 shutout victory against Hamilton on Friday night.

From the drop of the puck, it was clear that there would be loads of action in this one. The Steelheads would head to the power play first as Zach Magwood got 2 for tripping early in the first. However, before the Steelheads were able to set up shop, Sean Day was sent to the sin bin for tripping just 17 seconds later. Both team's had chances during the 4 on 4 but both Colt's goalie Mackenzie Blackwood and Steelheads goalie Jack Flinn were up to the challenge. With Mike McLeod in the box for holding, the Colts power play went to work as Andrew Mangiapane scored his 10th of the year after a nice tic tac toe passing play. Assist on the goal went to Julius Nattinen and Kevin Lebanc. Looking for the equalizer, the Steelheads generated a number of good scoring chances to close our the period but were unable to solve Blackwood. The period ended with the Colts up 1-0. Shots on goal were 16-10 in favour of Mississauga.

Early on in the 2nd, it was the Colts taking advantage of some sloppy Steelheads play as Lebanc scored his 6th of the season to put Barrie up 2-0, the lone assist went to Justin Scott. With the Steelheads down a man, the Colts powerplay struck again as Nattinen knocked down an Everett Clark clearing attempt and beat Flinn high glove side to add to the Colts lead. Late in the period and with Blackwood out of his net on a delayed penalty call, the Colts would pad their lead. This time is was Matt Brassard's first of the season with just 24 seconds left on the clock to give the Colts a 4-0 lead heading into the 2nd intermission. Shots on goal after 2 were 24-23 in favour of Barrie.

With the Colts comfortably ahead to begin the third, Nattinen would score his 2nd unassisted goal of the game for the Colts at 12:48. Mangiapane would add another late goal, his 2nd of the game to put the Colts up 6-0, which is how this game would end. Final score 6-0 with shots on goal 34-27 in favour of Barrie.
