November 4, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Norfolk Admirals News Release
The Chicago Blackhawks and Comcast SportsNet have jointly announced that the Chicago area's newest 24-hour regional sports network will televise three live games featuring the Blackhawks' minor league affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals.
The first game scheduled to be televised will be on Sunday, November 14th, when Norfolk travels to Philadelphia to take on the Phantoms (affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers) at 5:00 p.m. CST. Subsequent games will take place on Sunday, December 19th, at San Antonio (Florida Panthers affiliate) at 5:00 p.m. CST and Sunday, February 20th, at Hartford (New York Rangers affiliate) at 3:00 p.m. CST. Pete Michaud, play-by-play announcer for the Norfolk Admirals, and Blackhawk color analyst Troy Murray will call all the action.
"I am excited that, with the cooperation of Comcast SportsNet and the Norfolk Admirals, we will be able to showcase our talented young players to our Chicago fans," said Blackhawks General Manager Bob Pulford.
"We're delighted to be able to work with the Blackhawks and give the fans a glimpse into the promising future of the Blackhawks organization with these live game telecasts," said James J. Corno, Senior Vice President/General Manager for Comcast SportsNet Chicago.
"The Norfolk Admirals are delighted to cooperate with the Blackhawks in getting these games on Chicago television," said Norfolk Executive Vice President Blake Cullen. "We look forward to continuing a great relationship with the Blackhawks."
The Admirals have several players in their lineup who have seen action for the Blackhawks in the recent past. The goaltending duo of Michael Leighton and Craig Anderson each played in several games for the Blackhawks last season. On defense, the Admirals have second year players Anton Babchuk, Michal Barinka, and Duncan Keith to go along with first year defensemen James Wisniewski and Nick Kuiper. Jim Vandermeer who was acquired by the Blackhawks from the Philadelphia Flyers last season along with Marty Wilford provide veteran leadership and toughness on the back line.
At forward, the Admirals have Mikhail Yakubov, Pavel Vorobiev, Igor Radulov, Matt Keith, Matt Ellison, Quintin Laing Travis Moen, Eric Nickulas, and Shawn Thornton, all of whom had NHL experience with the Blackhawks last season. Add to that mix Jason Morgan who was acquired from Calgary mid-season last year, Rene Bourque who was signed as a free agent last summer, and returning veterans Ajay Baines and Brandin Cote and it all adds up to a combination of skill and grit.
The Norfolk Admirals are currently tied for first place in the East Division of the Eastern Conference with a record of 5-3-0-0 for 10 points.
