Worcester Signs Kaczowka

WORCESTER, MA – St. Louis Blues Senior Vice President/General Manager and Worcester IceCats GM of Hockey Operations Larry Pleau announced today that the ‘Cats have signed left wing David Kaczowka (pron: kuh-ZOW-kuh) to a professional tryout contract (PTO). Also today, Worcester loaned forward Mark Jerant to their ECHL affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen.

A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, the 6-2, 235 pound Kaczowka initially showcased his abilities during WorcesterÂ’s 2004 training camp and two subsequent exhibition games. In those games, he was accessed 22 penalty minutes. Prior to the signing, in three games for the Rivermen this season, the 23-year old had an assist and 12 penalty minutes: 3(0/1/1)12.

Originally drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the fourth round, 98th overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Kaczowka began his professional career in 2001 with the ECHLÂ’s Greenville Grrrowl. He appeared in 32 games in 2001-02 and 59 games in 2002-03 with Grrrowl, compiling four goals, eight assists and 424 penalty minutes: 91(4/8/12)424. He split time between the Gwinnett Gladiators and Peoria last season, totaling six goals, six assists and 190 PIMÂ’s in 37 games: 37(6/6/12)190.

Signed to an AHL contract on July 31st, Jerant, played in four games for the IceCats this season, recoding 15 penalty minutes.

The IceCats, currently on a five game winning streak, entertain the 7-0 Manchester Monarchs on Friday and the Portland Pirates on Saturday. Both games begin at 7:05 PM.
